Life, Lived Better – Outdoors

Fall Feeling

It’s been a minute…

A lot has been happening at our family-owned store over the last few months, and I have been unable to keep up with my newsletter duties.  For this, I apologize.  Re-vamping, re-arranging, and remodeling has taken my full bandwidth with the goal of continuing to give you the utmost in outdoor living with the service, quality, and pricing you deserve.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continued support and patronage.

Now, we are moving into the Christmas Season and Christmas World is taking center stage.  Transforming part of our Riverside showroom into the Holiday wonderland you’ve come to know and enjoy is no small feat.  Months of planning and preparation is finally coming to fruition as we prepare to host you, your family, and friends into our world, Christmas World.

A break from the hustle and bustle, a time to relax, enjoy seasonal delights, timeless pieces, nostalgic memories, and new ensembles.  Ornaments hung with care, trees of all designs, styles, and sizes for your aesthetic, and stunning displays to inspire and help you create a vision all your own.  Opening October 27th, we welcome you to start your Christmas Season with us.

But don’t fret, we still have a lot of outdoor living pieces on display to make your al fresco experience more relaxing and enjoyable during this time of year.  Along with inspiring outdoor furniture, we have fire pits, heaters, and all the accessories for your entertaining and/or relaxing pleasure, no matter the season.

Also, if you’re thinking of refreshing that tired fireplace and truly incorporating it to a useable, functional, and enjoyable part of your home, we welcome you to see the variety of gas logs, fire glass, and other fire media to complete your indoor living space.  If a remodel is part of your vision, we have recommended contractors to enhance your fireplace – no matter the size, scope, or budget.  Contact us for a no obligation estimate.

So, as you see, there is a lot going on this time of year and we invite you to contact us with any questions and we will be more than happy to help or point you in the right direction.

See you soon!

Take care,

Wayne Romain

(WBR) Wayne’s Book Review

Aren’t you lucky?  Yes, I think you are.  Because I am continuing my quest to read a book every month (last year’s New Year’s Resolution), and you get a rare glimpse into the somewhat chaotic mind of Wayne Romain and his take on said book.

Just so you know, I’m not a reader.  Other than last year, I have probably read six or seven books in the previous 10.  No literary giant here, but like a lot of things in life, you get outside your element, do things you don’t normally do, and you might learn something.

What does this have to do with the outdoors?  Maybe nothing.  Maybe a lot. But it does represent another pastime that we can enjoy (or muddle through) in The Outdoors.

This month’s book:

The Land of Little Rain

By Mary Hunter Austin

Book Overview

“Between the high Sierras south from Yosemite–east and south over a very great assemblage of broken ranges beyond Death Valley, and on illimitably into the Mojave Desert” is the territory that Mary Austin calls the Land of Little Rain. In this classic collection of meditations on the wonders of this region, Austin generously shares “such news of the land, of its trails and what is astir in them, as one lover of it can give to another.” Her vivid writings capture the landscape–from burnt hills to sun-baked mesas–as well as the rich variety of plant and animal life, and the few human beings who inhabit the land, including cattlemen, miners, and Paiute Indians.
My take…
Rather than a story or a novel, this is a variety of essays describing the total environment of the Owens Valley, the Eastern Sierras, the Mojave, the foothills and the surrounding environs.  From the wildlife to the plant life, from indigenous cultures to the recently relocated miners, cattleman, and ranchers – the author wonderfully describes the harsh realities and beautiful underpinnings of the area. The delicate balance of people and nature are summarized in wonderful detail that makes me want to re-visit the area with “new eyes” of how survival and beauty intertwine.

On a scale of 1-10, I’d give it 7.

Note: This is my unprofessional, biased, informal review. I make no claims and receive no money or support for my reviews.  It’s just an extrapolation from the mind of WR.
