Life, Lived Better – Outdoors
It’s Christmas Time Y’all!
After a weird, stressful, confusing, and downright odd year, I’m ready to shed all of that and celebrate the Holiday season! Not that the whole year was negative, there were more positives than negatives, but it definitely kept me on my toes.
Time to slow down a little and truly enjoy special moments with family, friends, co-workers, and everyone we come in contact with over the course of the year and on a daily basis. Settling down and being real. We are all human, so let’s take off that “mask” and just enjoy life’s moments.
As my recently passed father-in-law, Mr. Booth, used to say, “Time is a thief.” Let’s remember that as we go about our respective lives, commitments, obligations, and, of course, festivities this Holiday Season: Take the time because all you have is today. It is truly a gift.
Take care.

(WBR) Wayne’s Book Review
Aren’t you lucky? Yes, I think you are. Because I am continuing my quest to read a book every month (last year’s New Year’s Resolution), and you get a rare glimpse into the somewhat chaotic mind of Wayne Romain and his take on said book.
Just so you know, I’m not a reader. Other than last year, I have probably read six or seven books in the previous 10. No literary giant here, but like a lot of things in life, you get outside your element, do things you don’t normally do, and you might learn something.
What does this have to do with the outdoors? Maybe nothing. Maybe a lot. But it does represent another pastime that we can enjoy (or muddle through) in The Outdoors.
This month’s book:
By Oscar Wilde
Book Overview (From Wikipedia)
The Importance of Being Earnest, a Trivial Comedy for Serious People is a play by Oscar Wilde, the last of his four drawing-room plays, following Lady Windermere’s Fan (1892), A Woman of No Importance (1893) and An Ideal Husband (1895). First performed on 14 February 1895 at the St James’s Theatre in London, it is a farcical comedy depicting the tangled affairs of two young men about town who lead double lives to evade unwanted social obligations, both assuming the name Ernest while wooing the two young women of their affections.
The play, celebrated for its wit and repartee, parodies contemporary dramatic norms, gently satirizes late Victorian manners, and introduces – in addition to the two pairs of young lovers – the formidable Lady Bracknell, the fussy governess Miss Prism and the benign and scholarly Canon Chasuble. Contemporary reviews in Britain and overseas praised the play’s humor, although some critics had reservations about its lack of social messages.
My take…
I listened to the play via audio book. A bit difficult to follow while driving around doing deliveries on so-Cal’s byways and highways. Probably better read via traditional book or viewed as a play as it was designed.
It is an entertaining tale and more like a comical mini-series in today’s terms. The ins and outs of the eccentric personalities, superficial love interests, inherent elder in-laws, and the tangle of the “lies we weave”, make for an amusing set of circumstances set in the post-Victorian era.
Some of the dialogue flew over my head as, like said above, “I’m no literary giant”, and especially with a 125 year old text such as this. But the play was written well enough so a dullard like me could follow along and find it entertaining. I would even like to see the play if the opportunity ever presented itself.
On a scale of 1-10, I’d give it 7.
Note: This is my unprofessional, biased, informal review. I make no claims and receive no money or support for my reviews. It’s just an extrapolation from the mind of WR.
